Multi-view items & compound objects

About multi-view items

Multi-view items enable multiple views of a single object. For example, a postcard is a single object with two dimensions: a front and a back. With multi-view items, both dimensions would be captured and displayed within the same digital object file. When an item is multi-view, you will see the multi-view icon appear below the item thumbnail. The number next to the multi-view icon indicates the number of views contained within the item.

Working with multi-view items

View

Detail page view: To see each of the multiple views within a multi-view item:

1. Click on the item to view the item details
2. Hover over the image
3. Use the advance arrow that appears over the image to go to the next view, or select a thumbnail from beneath the image

You can select different views in the bottom bar of the item detail view.

Full-screen mode: To see each of multiple views within full-screen mode:

1. Hover over the image in detail mode
2. In the upper-left corner of the image, a toolbar will appear
3. Select the "launch fullscreen" icon 
4. Hover over the image
5. Use the Advance arrow that appears over the image to go to the next view, or select a thumbnail from beneath the image.

Compare

Comparing multi-view items is similar to comparing single-view items. To compare with another item:

1. Hover over the image in detail mode
2. In the upper-left corner of the image, a toolbar will appear
3. Select the "launch fullscreen" icon 
4. Hover over the image
5. Click "Compare" in the toolbar that appears in the top right
6. Select another image from the sidebar that appears (images that appear here are pulled from search results or images within the same image group)

Hovering over the image in fullscreen view will make the compare panel appear.

Note: using "compare mode" within the same multi-view items is currently not available. To make a comparison, we recommend zooming in on images in Detail Mode, then downloading each image detail separately, then comparing them in a presentation software of your choosing.
