To view Groups in these categories
Use the following tags to filter your view of the list of groups. To quickly navigate to a particular tag, use the CTRL or CMD keys + F and then type in the tag name.
AP® – These Groups support the curriculum frameworks for the Advanced Placement® Art History, European History and US History courses with Groups, accompanying essays, and links to other resources.
Art History, Architecture and the Built Environment – With each of these tags, you will find Groups that mix iconic images with other selections that are meant to trigger new ideas and provoke deeper research. Each group is intended to be an inclusive, rather than comprehensive, introduction to a particular subject or discipline. We encourage you to use these groups to search and browse for more images related to these and other subjects in the Digital Library.
Case Studies – Use the tag Case Studies to filter to Groups and essays demonstrating the creative ways subscribers are using the Artstor Digital Library in their teaching, research, and scholarship. Contributors include winners of the Artstor Travel Awards 2010-2013. Groups here include the topics of:
- STEM to STEAM
- Art History
- Architecture and Urban Studies
- Cultural Studies
- K-12
- Performing Arts & Humanities
- Textiles
Curriculum Guides – these 144 groups contain selected images for teaching courses and have been curated by experts in their field. Each guide includes a course syllabus outlining topics and themes, a set of images for each theme, and a description of how the images can be used in that course.
Illustrated Essays & Guest Lectures – These inquiries provide personalized perspectives on wide-ranging topics. The essays exploit the potential of abundant and specific imagery to illuminate a theme. Contributors, both from our wider community, and in-house, elucidate a particular expertise or interest. While the emphasis of the essays may be more editorial than academic, many provide links to scholarly sources.
Studio Art – These Groups support teaching studio art courses with roughly 25-40 images per group, which illustrate examples of different qualities in art. The STEM to STEAM Group offers images that bridge the gap between art and science.
Sample Lesson Plans – Our sample lesson plans can help teachers use images to engage students in the classroom. This growing set of plans is intended to stimulate meaningful teaching with streamlined preparation.
Social Studies
Humanities – A growing number of Groups (containing 100 images each) that illustrate topics as diverse as the environment and the Renaissance. While some subjects - Women’s Studies, Anthropology, and Music History, among others – reflect academic guidelines, others present an eclectic panorama on a niche topic, as for example, Food and Culinary Arts, and the History of Medicine and Natural Science. Given that these topics range beyond traditional subject matter, they feature the unexpected and stimulate interdisciplinary thinking.
