Shared Shelf is a media management system that allows you you to catalog, manage, and share your digital collections. You can upload your images, video, audio, and documents to Shared Shelf and add data to make it searchable. The content you catalog can then can be published and shared with your institution through the Artstor Workspace, or shared externally on the web via Shared Shelf Commons, or published to an Omeka site. Content can also be harvested from our OAI-PMH server and then used in a library discovery system or in another local environment.

In addition to Shared Shelf institutional content, Artstor Supports Shared Shelf Commons, a free, open-access library of images. Anyone can search and browse Shared Shelf Commons collections with tools to zoom, print, export, and share images. Institutions that subscribe to  Shared Shelf can share their images with the world via the Commons.

If you are at an institution that subscribes to Shared Shelf, you will have access to institutional collections from within the Artstor Workspace.  These images will be marked with a gray “S” thumbnail icon, and, depending on permissions, can be found and used in the same way as Digital Library images.  Learn more about Shared Shelf at Shared Shelf Support.
