About Zotero

Zotero is a free software tool for the Firefox web-browser. It runs in its own pane within Firefox, separately from web pages. Zotero can be used to collect a snapshot of items from the Detail page, that can be indexed in your own “personal library.” With Zotero, Artstor Digital Library content can be captured and then combined with other content such as web pages, PDFs, images, audio and video. Zotero then provides tools for organizing, tagging, citing and syncing this content across your devices.

If you would like to use Zotero with other web browsers such as Chrome, Safari, or Opera, or on a mobile device, you must install the standalone version. See these installation options. If you have installed the standalone version of Zotero and the connector (browser plug-in) for the browser you are using, the icons views and options you see may differ from below.

Create a citation from the Detail page

  1. Open any item on the Detail page.
  1. Click on the page icon  at the right side of your browser address bar. Or click the dropdown arrow to choose which type of information to save. Options are embedded metadata, with a snapshot, or without a snapshot.
  2. The item will be saved to your Zotero data.

View citations stored in Zotero

  1. Start the Zotero panel by clicking on the Z icon at the far-right side of the address bar.
  2. In the Zotero Panel, your citation(s) will appear in My Library and be listed in the center panel under Title.
  3. You can click on any stored citation in the Title panel, and view the data details in right hand side under the Info panel.
  4. To view the citation as a static page, double click on the citation title OR to view the citation as a webpage, Right- or Control-click on the title and choose View Online.
  5. To close the Zotero panel, click the x at the upper right of the citation window.
