September 2016

New Features (AWS 5.2)

  • Help links throughout the Artstor Digital Library have been updated to reflect the address of our new help site, support.artstor.org
  • Radio buttons beneath “Search by date or date range” (Find all records that include this year (or overlap this range) and Find only records from this exact year (or within this range), have been removed, to provide more complete search results.
  • When browsing an Institutional Collection, the quick search box will automatically be narrowed down to that single institutional collection.
  • The terms and conditions page viewed when downloading an image from the Artstor Digital Library now includes text, notifying users that the descriptive information about the image is embedded in the image file.

Bug Fixes

  • Streaming audio with Viewer URL: Audio files will now play when launched from an Image Viewer URL
  • Search notes: Searching instructor notes that have been set as “public” will return relevant results if users from your same institution created the notes.
  • Multiple collection type searches: Searches involved manually selected collection types that include “ARTstor Collections” and “Shared Shelf Commons Collections” collections will return relevant results from all selected collection types.
  • “My collections” searches: 
    • Advanced searches involving “My collections” along with other manually selected collection types, will include results from “My collections” as a part of the search. Exception: Searches including “My collections” and Shared Shelf commons collections.
    • Users without a Shared Shelf personal collection searching “My Collections” will no longer service a server error. The search will perform successfully.
  • Private collection search: Advanced searches constructed to include private collections will return results from the user’s Shared Shelf private collections as well as results from the Artstor Digital Library.

Known issues

  • Advanced search and Shared Shelf Commons: Advanced searches including My Collections or a Personal Collection with a Shared Shelf Commons collections result in the message “A server error occurred.”
    • Status: Logged
  • Manage personal collection: Using right click on the lock icon preceding personal collection files personal-collection-lock-icon shows option menu, but options are disabled. To avoid this issue, first select the filename by clicking the title (not clicking on the lock icon), and then right (or Ctrl) click to see the option menu.
    • Status: Logged
    • Work-around 1: Refresh your browser. You should now be able to select files in the “Manage personal collection” window and open the option menu.
    • Workaround 2: Logout of Artstor and clear the your browser cache. Log back into Artstor Digital Library. You should now be able to select files in the “Manage personal collection” window and open the option menu.

March 2016

New Features

  • Embedded Metadata: Embedded Metadata is now available for users. Images in the Digital Library can now be downloaded as a single file with embedded metadata. By embedding the data, we no longer need to require you to download two files in a .zip when you just want an image. If you still require the metadata file, you can now download it separately from the metadata window.
  • Audio Files: Shared Shelf Audio files in the Digital Library no longer require QuickTime for playback. Users can now select any plugin to play these audio files in their browsers.

  • Addition of an agreement to the Terms & Conditions to our login page
  • Fixed issues with diacritics and CJK characters in our metadata downloads
  • Resolved issues with conducting advanced searches within Shared Shelf Commons Collections
  • Fixed problems with conducting advanced searches that include Personal Collections
  • Users accessing QTVRs in Chrome will now be directed to use Firefox or IE, as Chrome no longer supports this file type
  • Fixed error message seen by administrators when downloading promotion materials from admin.artstor.org

May 2015

New Features

  • Shared Shelf Commons Collections: Shared Shelf Commons collections are now available alongside content in the Digital Library and images in these collections are identified with an 03 Light_SSC_Normal icon. Shared Shelf Commons is also an option under the Collection facets of Filters and Advanced Search.
  • Teaching Resources: Featured Groups have been renamed Teaching Resources and they include all of the same content (Surveys, Curriculum Guides, Case Studies and AP® Resources).
  • Full Screen (Non-popup) Viewer: A full screen viewer URL is now available for all images.
  • Internet Explorer 11: This release includes improved support for Internet Explorer 11.

This release also includes development of subject-specific portals, such as SAHARA, as well as others that have not yet been released.

Known Issues

  • Institutional Login in Internet Explorer 11: In Internet Explorer 11, you may experience an issue scrolling through the drop-down list of institutions in the Institutional Login.
    • Status: Logged
    • Work-around: Use your mouse to scroll through the list or begin typing your institution’s name to filter for it.
  • Network Error Message or No Response During Search: In Chrome and Safari, you may receive an error message or the system may not respond when you perform a search that would return a large number of results (e.g. a keyword search for japan).
    • Status: Scheduled

 

December 2014

Bug Fixes

  • Browsing Image Groups: Image Group Descriptions are now updating when browsing Image Groups.
  • Google Translate: Title text in the Image Viewer window is now translated.
  • Uploading to Personal Collections: When a filename includes a space(s), the full filename is now copied to the Title field in the metadata record.
  • Keyword Searching: Keyword searching now produces the correct number of results when using either the Keyword Search box or an Advanced Search box.
  • Search Result Page Numbers: The number of search result pages now updates when adjusting the display between 24, 48, and 72 Images/page.

Known Issues

  • Image Viewer: In Internet Explorer 11, you may experience an issue loading an image in the Image Viewer.
    • Status: Resolved – May 2015
    • Work-around: Scroll to the next image in the Image Viewer. The image should load and you should be able to scroll back and view the previous image. Or, use another browser.

This release also includes development of subject-specific portals, such as SAHARA, as well as others that have not yet been released.
Note: With this release, Internet Explorer 7 is no longer a supported browser.

June 2014

New Features

  • Institutional Login: If your institution has provided us with an institutional login option, you will be able to access Artstor Digital Library by selecting your institution from the institutional login list and logging in with your institutional credentials. If you are an administrator and are interested in enabling the institutional login option for your institution, please note that we support two access methods:
    • Proxy Access: Institutions that utilize a proxy may add it to our institutional login list. Users at the institution will be able to login via the proxy using the institutional login option in Artstor Digital Library. To add your institution’s proxy to our institutional login list, please send the URL to: userservices@artstor.org
    • Shibboleth Single Sign-on Access: Artstor has partnered with several Shibboleth single sign-on federations, including InCommon. Institutions that belong to one of our partner federations may enable Shibboleth for Artstor Digital Library access. Users at the institution will be able to login via Shibboleth using the institutional login option in Artstor Digital Library. To enable Shibboleth for your institution, please contact: userservices@artstor.org
  • Google Translate Widget: The Google Translate button enables easy and on-the-fly translation of content within Artstor Digital Library.
  • Shared Shelf Collections Searching: Shared Shelf subscribers can limit searches by Shared Shelf Collection in Artstor Digital Library.
  • Shared Shelf Collections Name: “Shared Shelf Collections” has been changed to “Shared Shelf Institutional Collections” throughout Artstor Digital Library.

Bug Fixes

  • Images/Page: A scroll bar will appear when the images/page setting for a search results or Image Group page is raised.
  • Forgot Password?: When users log in via their institution (Shibboleth only) and attempt to link an existing Artstor Digital Library user account to their institutional user account, there is a “Forgot Password?” option.

Known Issues

  • Advanced Search: The Geography and Classification filters in Advanced Search do not work for users at institutions that do not host local content in Artstor Digital Library.

  • Institutional Login Option (Proxy Access): We are currently unable to add new institutional proxies to our institutional login list.
    • StatusResolved – December 2014
    • Work-aroundRemote users may be able to login to an institutional proxy or VPN via their institution’s library website. Users who have registered for an Artstor Digital Library user account can access Artstor Digital Library remotely by logging in to their account.
  • Image Viewer: In Internet Explorer 11, you may experience an issue loading an image in the Image Viewer.
    • StatusLogged – November 2014
    • Work-around: Scroll to the next image in the Image Viewer. The image should load and you should be able to scroll back and view the previous image.
  • Replace Image in Personal Collection: The replace image function in Personal Collections is not working.

January 2014

New Features

  • Collection Icons: New icons underneath image thumbnails indicate the collection that the image belongs to:

    • iconPersonalCollection Personal Collections
  • Next Page Icon: For search results and Image Groups with multiple pages, a Next Page navigation icon appears after the last image on the page.
  • Resource Links: “Teaching & Study Ideas”, “Stay Informed”, and “Copyright Concerns” links have been added to the footer of Artstor Digital Library.
  • Image Cluster Icon Names: The “View duplicates and details” icon has been changed to “You may also be interested in…” and the “View related media” icon has been changed to “Others are also interested in…” to clarify content relationships.

Bug Fixes

  • Image Download Count: The image download count for users registered by a local administrator is now set to 2000 images in 120 days.
  • Export/Download Guidelines Window: The message now specifies that multimedia files cannot be downloaded.
  • Download Count: Non-downloadable media (multimedia) content is no longer counted in the 150-image limit for Image Groups that are downloaded or exported to PowerPoint.
